Lighting Fixture Hire Package

Katie Davies, Head of Lighting for Arcadia took us through her choice of fixtures for this year's Glastonbury show, featuring the iconic Arcadia Spider stage.

"The eyes play a critical role in bringing the spider to life and I wanted the audience to be able to actually look into its face. I chose the Ayrton Perseo profile rather than beam fixtures for the eyes of the spider, as they give the spider a striking face, whilst also not being too blinding. Their IP65 rating was ideal as they are in a very exposed position, and their size sat perfectly, just proud of the eye socket. They were incredibly effective and gave the  spider an intense and powerful gaze.

We wanted to make the DJ’s more prominent and the inside of the capsule more visible to the audience as we are no longer using LED screens to show the DJ’s at work. I chose the Astera Titan Tubes, Helios Tubes, and AX5’s as I wanted something with a high CRI to give the audience and photographers working within the capsule a clear view and a good base to work with. Making sure the DJ’s have a good experience playing on the spider is important to Arcadia. As the Titan tubes give off a wide, diffused light I picked them as they could cast an even wash into the DJ Booth without glaring into the DJ’s eyes. The added versatility of the Astera fixtures' internal batteries meant we could test a bunch of different rigging positions before the main lighting infrastructure, power and data had even been installed on site. 

The SGM Q8’s were also a great choice, it’s the first time we have had IP rated strobes or coloured strobes on the spider, this enabled new colour looks on the spider that we haven’t been able to achieve before and it meant we could wash the whole spider in colour as well as have an old school strobe look, just using the white LED bar as well! The time saved not having to rig cumbersome extra waterproofing was also a great bonus!”
